3rd financial aid package announced

The Prime Minister of Malta, Dr. Robert Abela has announced a financial package for individuals employed with businesses operating in the private sector, including self-employed persons and part-time employees.

These measures are targeting those employees who are engaged in industries that have been adversely affected by the Covid-19 crisis. Two lists of different industries have been drawn up with different measures targeting each group of industries as listed in the table below:

1 day's salary/week equivalent to €100/month

Self-Employed

Salary capped at €800/month

2 days' salary/week equivalent to €320/month (self-employed who have employees)

Gozo

Full-time employees

Full-time employees – 2 days salary/week equivalent to €320/month

Part-time employees

Part-time employees - €200/month

Self-Employed

2 days salary/week equivalent to €320/month

Self-employed with employees

3 days salary/week equivalent to €480/month

The List A sectors are the following: certain wholesale activities; certain retail activities; transport; accommodation; food and beverage service activities; renting and leasing of motor vehicles; employment activities; travel agencies, tour operators, and other reservation services; security and investigation services; services to buildings; creative arts and entertainment services; and personal services.

The List B sectors are the following: manufacturing; other wholesale activities; other retail activities; warehousing; and information services.

The Prime Minister also noted that an online system will be set up which will enable a business to input its VAT number to obtain a list of measures to which such business is entitled to.
